US-Ireland Alliance Scholars*

Award: Tuition, housing, additional stipend, and travel to Ireland for a one-year post-graduate study program.

Number of awards: up to 12

  • There is no fixed limit on the number of applicant endorsements a UC San Diego can make, but these nominees must exhibit the qualities of a Alliance Scholar -- academic excellence, and significant accomplishment in leadership and community service.

  • Applicants can select up to 3 ranked universities when applying and the committee will decide on final placement. 

UC San Diego student deadline to be considered for nomination: typically mid-September (next deadline: there will be no competition for the 2025-2026 application cycle. While this program is on pause, it does not mean that the program will end. The US-Ireland Alliance scholarship will not be taking applications for this year.)

Eligibility & Requirements

  • US Citizenship
  • Graduating senior or recent graduate
    • must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university before beginning study as a US-Ireland Alliance Scholar. Degrees from international accredited universities are acceptable if all other conditions are met.
  • Age 18-30
  • Four letters of recommendation, at least two of which are from persons with whom you have done academic work. (each letter may not exceed 750 words)
  • If an undergraduate at the time of application, an institutional letter of endorsement is required. (letter of endorsement may not exceed 750 words)
  • If selected, must participate in a recorded video interview.

Apply to US-Ireland Alliance Scholars

The US-Ireland Alliance Scholarship requires an endorsement from the UC San Diego Institutional Advisor. It is recommended that applicants review the requirements and meet with the institutional advisor before applying.
