Area of Research

My research is based on understanding how transfers transition into university life and climate. The area of research has a multi-lens approach to education using sociological perspectives on critiquing four-year institutions.

My Journey to Research

I got involved in undergraduate research, because of my passion for education. I decided to get involved in research because learning and reframing my views towards society allows me to question the systems in place. Research allows me to get informed about how people are impacted by these very same systems and that is why research during undergrad is crucial for me to pursue. In sociology, we are constantly writing research papers and I wanted to do research that follows my interests.

How has COVID affected your Research?

COVID has stagnated my career/educational development in the sense that the way the programs would normally work would be in person with a lot of interpersonal interaction. It has not allowed me to network with the people on campus that I would normally approach. A lot of my interpersonal meetings with my mentor have been via zoom and that is how we have worked through our research plans and agenda

What is keeping you hopeful right now?

What is keeping me hopeful is the opportunities that are still to come even during these uncertain times. Being a transfer peer coach and getting into other research programs is something that I look forward to during the school year. With my involvement in school and research, I plan to apply to graduate programs in education for the following Fall.
