Which research programs/experiences have you been a part of?

What is your research about?

I worked on analyzing legal texts to identify and classify metaphorical language. I used both quantitative tools, including large language models (LLMs), and qualitative coding software such as MAXQDA. This experience gave me a better understanding of how different research methods and tools can be used to analyze complex information.

Why and how did you decide to get involved in undergraduate research?

During the 2026 SRP, I researched the pros and cons of generative AI in higher education. I wanted to become more involved in undergraduate research and learned about this opportunity through Triton Underground Scholars, which encouraged me to apply.

What has been the most exciting/interesting thing you've discovered through your research?

One of the most exciting things I learned through this research was the importance of AI literacy for college students. I learned that AI can be a valuable tool when it is used ethically and responsibly. This experience also gave me more insight into what research looks like at the college level and helped me develop a writing sample that I can use for future graduate school applications.

What advice would you give to students starting research?

For students interested in getting involved in research, I would recommend applying as soon as possible. I did not become involved in research until my senior year, and I wish I had started much earlier.

What are your future plans?

My future plans are to attend graduate school and pursue a master's degree in counseling. I am currently working on my graduate school applications and exploring programs that will help me reach my career goals.

Anything else you want to share?

Overall, I had an amazing experience participating in the 2026 SRP. I am grateful for the opportunity to gain research experience, learn more about AI and higher education, and prepare myself for the next step in my academic journey. :)
