Which research programs/experiences have you been a part of?
FMP program (winter quarter 2026 - spring quarter 2026)
What are you researching (or did you do in the past)?
I was with the Metallo Lab at the Salk Institute for 2.5 years, where my research was on cancer cell metabolism.
Why and how did you decide to get involved in undergraduate research?
I got into biological research because I've always found it fascinating how intricately the body works and responds to diseases, and I want to use that knowledge to improve people's lives.
What has been the most exciting/interesting thing you've discovered through your research?
The most interesting thing in my research is seeing how sensitive our metabolic state is and how it can be an important biomarker for diseases and their progression.
What did you gain from this program/experience?
I gained a lot from my experience with the FMP program. I learned that research can take a long time and you may not get "significant results," but I really believe that any result tells you something important.
What advice would you give to students starting research?
To students who are starting research, I encourage you to not be discouraged. Research is not exciting all the time, but it's good to embrace every small victory you have while you're doing research. Also, undergraduate research is a huge commitment you should be proud of yourself.
What are your future plans?
In the future, I hope to work in the biotech industry.
