UC San Diego graduation year: 2026

Which research programs/experiences have you been a part of?

I've participated in the URS Summer Scholarship program (gifted by the Ledell family both 2024 and 2025). I've also been a part of the CAMP cohorts for fall of 2024 and fall of 2025.

What are you researching (or did you do in the past)?

I'm currently working in the Biering lab which is a virology lab here on campus, and I've worked on a project focused on elucidating the molecular determinants of Dengue Virus (DENV) NS1 mediated endothelial dysfunction and vascular leak.

Why and how did you decide to get involved in undergraduate research?

I've always loved science and have always wanted to be a part of a team contributing to advancing scientific knowledge, and I knew that working in research here on campus would allow me to gain hands-on experience and learn from my peers and mentors.

What has been the most exciting/interesting thing you've discovered through your research?

The most interesting part of my research has been having the chance to make decisions and learn from troubleshooting, which has taught me a lot about problem-solving and perseverance.

What did you gain from this program/experience?

I learned that I truly love science and research, and that there’s nothing more fulfilling than learning through hands-on experience.

What advice would you give to students starting research?

My advice would be to put yourself out there, always ask questions, and embrace mistakes because they are the best way to learn and grow as a researcher!

What are your future plans?

I hope to stay in science and continue learning and contributing, and to be part of discoveries that can make a real difference
