I'm Taylor Campbell, a junior at Eleanor Roosevelt College, majoring in Sociology. I received the Undergraduate Research Scholarship to continue my research during the 2019 Summer Research Program.
My research investigates the largely unrecognized barriers to mental healthcare impacting the severely mentally ill, their families, the community, and the subsequent detrimental consequences. I discuss several factors that contribute to this problem by examining institutions and policy, structural barriers to care, and more covert barriers that are embedded in social structure and culture.
In the future I hope to attend graduate school and earn a PhD in Sociology with a focus in mental health / medicine.
My ultimate goal is to continue my research and become a professor at a research institution.
