If you have applied for the Summer Research Program, please know we are continuing to prepare for it as always. We are reviewing applications, planning associated events (including the Summer Research Conference) and working with our partners to make sure projects can be completed remotely if necessary and that housing or a housing allowance will be provided to all participants as well as a stipend.

While the Summer Research Program will be virtual this year and we are committed to bringing a solid experience to all students involved. Don’t hesitate to ask any questions about the program in general or your specific SRP program.


California Louis Stoke Alliance for Minority Participation (CAMP) program provides support for ethnically underrepresented students majoring in the sciences, mathematics, engineering, and technology.

Summer CAMP

The UC San Diego Summer CAMP is a 10-week, full-time research experience for undergraduates, supported by the California Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation in Science, Engineering, and Mathematics grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). The objective of the program is to provide students with the skills to pursue research careers and to stimulate serious consideration of graduate study.

The tentative program would take place June 20, 2022 - August 26, 2022.

Summer CAMP fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis to UC San Diego students who are:

  • U.S. citizens or permanent residents
  • Juniors (or have at least 90 units) or seniors, have not previously participated in this program
  • African American, American Indian, Chicano, Latino, Pacific Islander, or Alaskan Native
  • Majors:
    • Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, or Earth Sciences major
  • GPA Requirement: 2.7 and above


  • Your faculty mentor should email as soon as possible agreeing to be your mentor for the 10-week summer program.
  • Students may not take classes (either session 1 or session 2) during the scholarship period (June 20 - August 2, 2020).
  • Students may not hold an outside job during the scholarship period and may be asked to sign a form indicating they have ended all employment for the summer. 
  • Students may not be concurrently paid through their research group for work done during the summer.
