California Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (CAMP) in Science, Engineering and Mathematics

California Louis Stoke Alliance for Minority Participation (CAMP) program provides support for ethnically underrepresented students majoring in the sciences, mathematics, engineering, and technology.

 

CAMP - Quarterly

The UC San Diego CAMP program will fund research during the Spring Quarter of 2022. Students participating in the program will do 10-12 hours of mentored research and will be paid a $1,000 scholarship during the quarter they will be working on their project.  This scholarship will be disbursed by Financial Aid and will be incorporated into your overall financial aid package. Students interested in applying for a CAMP quarterly award should submit an application through the Undergraduate Research Hub opportunities portal during the quarter prior to that for which they are seeking an award.

Quarterly Program Exclusions

During the award period, you may not participate in the following:

  • Departmental 199 (independent research) or other class credit for the project (e.g., honors thesis)
  • Payment for the same work being proposed for CAMP
  • Participation in another structured research program

Summer CAMP

The UC San Diego Summer CAMP is a 10-week, full-time research experience for undergraduates, supported by the California Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). The objective of the program is to provide students with the skills to pursue research careers and to stimulate serious consideration of graduate study.

The program would take place June 21, 2022 - August 26, 2022.

Eligibility for CAMP Participation

CAMP scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to UC San Diego students who are:

  • U.S. citizens or permanent residents
  • Juniors (or have at least 90 units) or seniors by the time the program begins; preference for students who have not previously participated in this program
  • African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Native Pacific Islanders
  • Majors:
    • Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Marine Biology, or Earth Sciences major. Other similar disciplines may be eligible. 
  • GPA Requirement: 2.7 and above

Summer CAMP Exclusions

  • Students may not take classes (either session 1 or session 2) during the scholarship period (June 21 - August 26, 2022).
  • Students may not hold an outside job during the scholarship period and may be asked to sign a form indicating they have ended all employment for the summer. 
  • Students may not be concurrently paid through their research group for work done during the summer.
